I am awake to the fact that we are all human, but we sometimes forget our connection to other humans.
To remember that connection and to honor our shared humanity is to be “woke.”
I am awake to the idea that all life is precious and should be honored. To be “woke” is to make a conscious effort to honor the life of all people and never forget the value of each and every life.
I am awake to the fact that we live on this planet with our fellow humans for just a short time. To be “woke” is to understand just how precious life is, and to realize that as spiritual beings having a human experience, we also have an obligation to be stewards of the earth.
I am awake to the fact that there is evil and hatred in the world. To be “woke” is to be an ambassador for humanity and speak out against hate, recognize evil when we see it, seek the truth, support those who are suffering, and realize that as humans we are both beautiful and flawed, but we all deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
In the coming year, may we not only be awake, but may we also all be “woke” and focus on what unites us, rather than what divides us.
Life is precious. Let in the truth and light. Spread peace and love. Be kind.

Still no ERA

newspapers.com
The front-page article from 1977 when the state Senate killed the ERA.
Re: Better late than never: Adopt the ERA now, Florida, Editorial, Dec. 26
Wait, what? I just read the editorial in the Sun Sentinel’s Dec. 26 edition relating that Florida has yet to approve the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), 47 years after its spectacular defeat in Tallahassee.
Can that be right? Oh, if it was only a rumor my heart could stop beating so fast. Instead, I am consumed with anger and incredulity at the missed opportunity. How many other ways can this state find to discriminate against people? Just how draconian does the government want this state to be?
Since polls indicate that a huge percentage of the population wants equal rights, what is the holdup?

Rightfully tossing Trump
Donald Trump was thrown off the Colorado Republican primary ballot because of his actions on Jan 6, 2021, and no other reason. He committed the very acts that the U.S. Constitution was designed to prevent. It was not because of politics. It’s that simple. Read the provision yourself (Fourteenth Amendment, Section 3).

An asinine stunt
The bombshell Colorado court ruling that removed Trump from the ballot smacks of election interference.
Trump was never convicted of inciting an insurrection as charged. Bogus charges are fueled out of fear Trump will be re-elected. There’s no doubt that the U.S. Supreme Court will overrule this asinine stunt by the Colorado Supreme Court and will put the kibosh on any other state that wants to keep Trump off the ballot. This is still America. Let voters decide.
