The Miami Dolphins and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick agreed to a revised contract, but there’s still more that the Pro Bowl safety is looking for.
Fitzpatrick now has $16.245 million guaranteed from his current deal, according to his new agent Drew Rosenhaus, as the two sides reached this agreement on the Dolphins’ first off day of training camp Sunday. ESPN first broke the news Sunday morning.
Miami inherited Fitzpatrick’s contract from the Pittsburgh Steelers when it traded cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh and got the three-time All-Pro safety in return.
Fitzpatrick was out of guaranteed money on the deal, and he recently hired Rosenhaus to negotiate the alteration upon his return to the Dolphins, who drafted him in the first round of the 2018 draft and traded him to the Steelers in 2019.
There’s still more work Fitzpatrick’s side wants done, as years were not added to his contract. He’s currently signed through 2026.
“We are comfortable with this commitment to Minkah as we continue to work with the Dolphins on a multi-year extension,” Rosenhaus said.
But in the short term, it works for both sides. The Dolphins cleared $11 million in cap space, according to NFL Network, by converting some of Fitzpatrick’s salary to a bonus, and Fitzpatrick had $2 million of his 2026 salary moved up a year to this coming season. He is now due $17.5M in 2025 and $15.6M in 2026.
Through negotiations, Fitzpatrick has been a full participant in his first four practices back with the Dolphins this past week at the team’s training camp. At Saturday’s session, he came down with an interception on a deep throw into traffic by backup quarterback Zach Wilson.
Miami adds necessary cap flexibility ahead of the season as it was previously strapped for cash while signing a pair of veteran cornerbacks on Saturday — Jack Jones before the day’s practice, as he participated with the team, and nickelback Mike Hilton, agreeing to terms after Saturday drills.
The Dolphins can also now move on to working with defensive tackle Zach Sieler for a deserved contract extension. Sieler, like Fitzpatrick, has been a full camp participant through negotiations and said he trusts the team will do right by him. He, too, is represented by Rosenhaus.
