FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern Athletics has announced the hiring of Zak Bertram as its Student-Athlete Support and Compliance Coordinator to bolster the compliance and academics staff efforts and help provide the Sharks’ student-athletes with opportunities and services to help them succeed.
“I am extremely excited to join the athletics staff at Nova Southeastern University and work alongside the many talented student-athletes, coaches and administrators. I am thankful for Michael Mominey, Rachel Fineberg, and Yashiva Edwards for providing me the opportunity to serve the Sharks’ student-athletes and coaches, and look forward to empowering the Sharks’ student-athletes to achieve success during competition, in the classroom and in our community.”
Bertram comes to Fort Lauderdale from Georgia Tech, where he was a football academic coordinator for nearly two years. With the Yellow Jackets, Bertram worked with large groups of student-athletes, monitoring academic progress and providing the tools for success with lessons in time management, communication and organization. In addition, Bertram evaluated and certified high school prospects for NCAA initial eligibility.
“I am excited about the addition of Zak to our department,” Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and NCAA Rules Education Yashiva Edwards said. “With his level of experience and motivation, I am positive that he will be able to apply his knowledge and skills here within NSU Athletics to assist us in continuing to build and maintain a very successful athletics program.”
Prior to his move to Atlanta, Bertram was a member of the staff at Dayton, beginning as a student-athlete support assistant in 2015. In his first role with the Flyers, Bertram aided the student-athletes in maintaining academic progress, monitored study hall, assisted the compliance department with data updates, was an athletics staff advisor for SAAC and taught a section of Life Skills for First-Year Student-Athletes.
Within one year, Bertram was elevated to Dayton’s director of football operations in 2016. In that role, he coordinated the day-to-day operations of UD’s Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) program, organizing travel, coordinating documents with compliance, managing coaches film and serving as a football staff touch-point for facilities, ticket office, marketing and academics.
Bertram graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Administration and Business Management. He then went on to receive his Masters in Sport Management from Florida State University. He started his career in athletics as an athletic department intern at Walnut Hills High School, and then went on to become the lifetime activities program instructor at Florida State.
