What’s happening in September in South Florida? Here are the must-attend events this month

One of the best things about South Florida is that our subtropical climate means that we can have festival fun just about all year long.

So with that in mind, welcome to SoFlo Festivals & Family Fun, a new feature that will give you a monthly look ahead to celebrations throughout Palm Beach and Broward counties.

Here is our list for September, but keep coming back to this post because we’ll continue to add events.

Hispanic Heritage Night

This Village of Wellington event will feature food trucks, vendors, games, DJs, dancing and performances by Latinos in Action (LIA) groups from the Palm Beach County School District.

PRIDE in Progress: Shaping America’s Legacy … Past, Present and Future!

This two-day LGBTQ festival — produced by the GENVAS Venetian Arts Society — will feature three events including:

  • Opening night reception/roundtable discussion, with music by Karina Iglesias & The Nu-Thang — 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at ArtServe Main Gallery, 1300 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale
  • Lecture presentation by Robert Kesten, executive director of the Stonewall National Museum, Library & Archives, and book reading from investigative reporter Robert “Bobby” Fieseler, the author of “American Scare: Florida’s Hidden Cold War on Black and Queer Lives” (Dutton, 2025) — 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Stonewall National Museum (inside ArtServe at same address as above)
  • The Promise Salon Concert by tenors Sam Tsui and Casey Breves (with opening cocktail reception) — 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Hagen Park Community Center, 2020 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors,

13th Annual Miramar Latin Music Festival

Salsa, merengue and reggaeton music will be in the spotlight during this free celebration of Latin culture hosted by Miramar Vice Mayor Yvette Colbourne. The bill of performers includes: “Queen of Merengue” Milly Quezada; Puerto Rican reggaeton singer Jory Boy and salsa bands Sonora Ponceña and Raul Gallimore & Orquesta Inmensidad.

Third Annual Founding Families Fall Festival

WHAT: The Historic Stranahan House Museum — the oldest home in Fort Lauderdale that was built in 1901 — will once again host this festival/fundraiser with live music, games, food trucks, beer & wine vendors as well as a special ceremony at 6:15 p.m. By the way, there will be free parking at the Riverside Hotel’s parking garage across the street.
WHEN: 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26
WHERE: Stranahan House, 335 SE Sixth Ave., Fort Lauderdale
COST: $5 for adults (includes one drink ticket); free for children

HISPANIC HERITAGE FESTIVAL

WHAT: For the second year, the City of Pembroke Pines will showcase Latin culture with activities, backyard games, photo opportunities, a vendor marketplace, cigar rollers and food (check out “Abuela’s House” with bite-sized sandwiches, lemonade and free coffee). Performers will include salsa artists Melina Almodóvar, the Cachi y Saoco Nuevo Band and Frankie Ruiz Jr., as well as flamenco dancers, mariachi musicians and characters from Disney’s “Encanto” movie.

30th Annual Downtown Delray Beach Craft Festival on 4th

WHAT: This event has become a must-stop-by institution, with nearly 100 craft artisans from around the state on the scene. There’s also a green market.
WHEN: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 27-28
WHERE: 401 E. Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach
COST: Free
