Deputies search for answers after man, shot, exits vehicle at red light and collapses in West Boca

A man with one or multiple gunshot wounds exited his truck at a red light Friday afternoon and collapsed in a busy roadway in West Boca, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. The truck was still in drive.

The unidentified man is now in critical condition at a nearby hospital while deputies try to piece together where — and why — he was shot.

“The shooting didn’t take place where the end result was,” said Teri Barbera, a spokesperson for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. “We don’t know where the shooting took place.”

Sometime between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m., deputies responded to a truck stopped at a red light in the 7500 block of Glades Road in the westbound lanes. Barbera said that she believed the truck was a “lunch truck,” or a mobile food truck.

A witness a few vehicles behind saw the man step out of the truck and collapse in the road. The truck, still in drive, rolled forward and stopped at the median.

The witness did not observe any altercation or gunshots, Barbera said.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help to determine what transpired Friday afternoon.

“We don’t know where he came from or anything,” Barbera said.
