‘Pure evil’: Trump’s rant after murders | Letters to the editor

What kind of elected official mocks murder victims?

The answer: One who is not deserving of representing anyone. Rob Reiner was an entertainment genius and a concerned and outspoken American.

Dishonoring him is purely evil. Any weaker descriptions are unnecessary.

A disgraceful excuse

Given our president’s response to the tragic homicides of the Reiners, he’s a narcissistic, bloviating egomaniacal disgraceful excuse for a human being.

President Trump’s Truth Social post after Rob and Michele Reiner were murdered.

Two deaths, two reactions

After Charlie Kirk was killed, some people expressed First Amendment-protected comments that were considered outrageous and offensive.

Some of them lost jobs. Careers were destroyed.

The President makes outrageous, offensive comments about the death of Rob Reiner, then doubles down when challenged on them, saying Reiner was “deranged and bad for our country.” Zero consequences. Repeat — there will be zero consequences.

Rob Reiner, when he was asked about Kirk’s death, said nobody should be a victim of violence for his political beliefs and was emphatic that it was a tragedy. He doubled down by praising Erika Kirk’s statements of forgiveness, and as a Jewish man he spoke of Jesus’s teachings of “Do unto others” and forgiveness.

Here we are.

The worst double standard

When Charlie Kirk was murdered, anyone making disparaging remarks was attacked by Trump and the right, some with threats of violence.

After the murders of Rob and Michele Reiner, Trump made a vile child-like attack on him, with no compassion for this horrible event.

He has normalized behavior that would be condemned not only in any president, but in any rational adult.

He has made hate speech acceptable while commanding the largest bully pulpit in the world.

If Trump had done anything like this in his first reign of error, many of his advisors would have tried to stop him from displaying this abnormal behavior to the world. But now, with sycophantic toadies bowing to his every command, none has the moral courage to tell him he’s wrong.

For a man who claims he’s a good Christian and has the support of many Evangelicals, I suggest he read the teachings of Christ in the New Testament (maybe for the first time).

Trump is making America hate again. If he had half the expertise and skill as president that Reiner had as an actor and director, we would be the perfect union our forefathers dreamed of creating. God help U.S. in our time of need.

Spreading like a cancer

A family filled with grief should never have to hear the words of disdain that came from the vile mouth of our … president.

Those who elected him and still support him must share the responsibility for his inexcusable behavior. I call it malignant, at its worst. It’s like a cancer, spreading and incurable.

Donald Trump could never fill the shadow of goodness that Rob Reiner gave to our world through his humor, visionary talents, good deeds and robust liberal political beliefs, to include one and and not just one.

His words will endure for centuries to come. So will Trump’s — but clearly for different reasons!
