Parts of Broward under flood advisory as heavy rain during high tide submerges roads

Parts of Broward County are under a flood advisory Friday afternoon as heavy rain fell during high tide about noon, quickly flooding some roads.

Though most of the storms have passed since earlier in the afternoon, areas from Pompano Beach south to Hallandale Beach, including Fort Lauderdale and Dania Beach, are under a flood advisory until at least 3:30 p.m., the National Weather Service Miami said.

Numerous roads in Wilton Manors are underwater, the police department said in a post on X. Commercial Boulevard in Oakland Park, as well as Federal Highway and Northeast 56th Street in Pompano Beach, also experienced some flooding, up to 8 inches, according to NWS Miami local storm reports.

Fort Lauderdale officials in an alert about 2:30 p.m. said crews are out monitoring the areas that are seeing some flooding and are making sure drains are clear. Fire rescue crews have not received any major calls for service related to the weather, according to Frank Guzman, a spokesperson for Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Batallion Chief Michael Kane said there have been many weather-related calls for assistance as of Friday afternoon but none involving rescue or a major medical emergency.

South Florida is expected to see a cold front in the region starting Saturday. Rain chances will decrease into the weekend and early next week, according to NWS Miami.
