Check out first-ever Plantation Seafood & Music Festival on Saturday

This is “Small Bites,” a South Florida Sun Sentinel feature with tiny tidbits on the food and beverage scene — because we know that sometimes you just don’t have room for a long article. You want a little news brief instead, an amuse bouche of information, if you will. Enjoy!

WHAT: For the first time ever, foodies can rock out and chow down at the Plantation Seafood & Music Festival.

As the title spells out, the inaugural event Saturday at Pine Island Park will feature seafood-forward food trucks and vendors, along with music from local bands, including Southern Blood, Smokin Renegade, Forever Foreigner and Hairdaze.

There will also be a classic car show with restored vintage vehicles, children’s entertainment, selfie photo opportunities and craft vendor booths.

In case of allergies, organizers have added some non-seafood vendors to the list of dining options, which will include: Mr. Maine Lobster, Flavor House Grill, Tulum Taco Shop, Garlick Seafood & More, The Greek by Chef Alex, Wontons on Wheels, Alfretta’s Conch Shack, Meatheads BBQ, Popo’s Seafood, JP’s House of Foods, Mr. Meatball, Playa Bowls, Anabel’s Kitchen, Joey’s Ice Cream, Kocoa and Heavenly Churros.

WHEN: Noon-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14

WHERE: Pine Island Park, 320 S. Pine Island Road, Plantation

COST: $15 for general admission, $10 for guests age 9-13, and free for age 8 and younger; $5 discount available at the gate for U.S. military personnel and veterans, with valid identification

EXTRA TIDBIT: The festival will serve as a fundraiser for the city’s Summer Camp Program scholarship fund, with a portion of the proceeds also benefiting Rachel’s Gate (hospice care for dogs) and the Justin Bartlett Animal Shelter.

“Camp is a vital part of every child’s summer, and we want to ensure that all Plantation kids have that opportunity,” said Joel Schick, superintendent of Recreation Facilities and Services.
