A man who has been held in a Broward jail since May will face a new charge after he allegedly threatened to carry out a shooting at the county courthouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Friday.
Scott Herbert Clark, 31, has been held in the North Broward Bureau since he was arrested by deputies in Tamarac on grand theft auto and burglary-related charges, jail records show. The North Broward Bureau is a special-needs detention facility.
Someone called Broward County Crime Stoppers multiple times Thursday morning, threatening a shooting at the courthouse, the Sheriff’s Office said.
BSO’s Real Time Crime Center was told of the threats by about 8 a.m., and Threat Management Unit detectives and courthouse deputies investigated, determining it was Clark who made the calls from the North Broward Bureau.
Clark admitted to making the calls, the Sheriff’s Office said. He will face an added charge stemming from the false threat, which is a second-degree felony in Florida.
In late May, Clark’s neighbor in Tamarac reported that Clark was attempting to steal a motorcycle from outside their home, according to a probable cause affidavit.
A deputy arrived and saw Clark with a screwdriver in his hand, and he admitted to attempting to steal the motorcycle, the affidavit said. He also admitted to stealing packages from outside his neighbor’s home.
Clark has been arrested numerous times previously in Broward County for other theft- and burglary-related charges, court records show.
Additional information related to the new charge was not available in court records Friday afternoon.
