It’s like T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, except for home furnishings and accessories rather than clothing.
But that’s fitting, because the same company that owns the two outlet clothing chains, TJX, also owns Homesense, which opened its first South Florida location at Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise today.
Homesense features a variety of furniture, lighting, mirrors and wall art, plus a Rug Emporium and General Store section featuring project supplies. Seasonal decor and entertainment supplies are also available. All of Homesense’s goods are sold at prices 20% to 50% less than full-price retail department and specialty stores.
The Sunrise store is the 51st in the United States for Homesense, not to be confused with HomeGoods, TJX’s other home furnishings store, which has 901 locations.
Regular hours are Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Two more Wawas open in South Florida
What did we do before Wawa came to town? The Pennsylvania-based chain opened its newest South Florida stores in Hollywood and West Palm Beach today.
They will be the 46th and 47th stores opened by the company in the tri-county region since its first three in Palm Beach County on the same day in March 2017.
In July 2022, the company celebrated its 10th year in Florida and 250th Florida store.
In case you don’t get out much, Wawa is a combination gas station, convenience store and fast food counter that offers a wide variety of freshly-made hoagies, burgers, pizzas, breakfast sandwiches, wraps and soups.
While the grand opening celebrations have passed, the stores will still celebrate by giving away free coffee through Sept. 3.
The Hollywood location is at 1851 N. Federal Highway while the West Palm Beach store is at 8115 Southern Blvd.
They are the 41st and 42nd of 76 stores that Wawa plans to open this year in its operating area of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C. and Florida. The chain also announced plans to expand into the Florida Panhandle, Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

Halloween ‘pop-up’ store opens
If Starbucks can unveil its Pumpkin Spice Latte in August, why shouldn’t Halloween stores open this early too?
Gulfstream Park Village announced the Aug. 29 opening of its Spirit of Halloween pop-up store at 600 Silks Run. It features an “unbeatable selection of classic and contemporary costumes,” plus accessories, and decorations.
Gulfstream Park Village is located off U.S. 1, just south of Hallandale Beach Blvd. in Hallandale Beach.

Auto tinting franchise opens 22nd Florida location
Tint World Automotive Styling Center, an auto accessory and window tinting franchise, has opened its 22nd Florida location at 6941 SW 196th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. The new location serves southern Broward County, including Pembroke Pines, Weston and Miramar.
The company specializes in window tinting, but also vehicle wraps, protective films, audio and electronics, security systems, car and truck accessories, wheels and tires, detailing, ceramic coating and installation services.
The new franchise is operated by two college friends: John Blakely and Jeff Beauplan, who graduated college together before embarking on separate careers — Beauplan in software engineering and Blakely in chemical engineering.
While researching franchise options, they spotted Tint World and decided it was “the clear answer for ownership, combining a proven business model with an exciting brand and culture,” Beauplan said.
