Only one Palm Beach County restaurant was forced to temporarily close last week after a state inspection found more than two dozen flies flying around the kitchen and food preparation areas.
The Sun Sentinel typically highlights restaurant inspections conducted by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation in Broward and Palm Beach counties. We cull through inspections that happen weekly and spotlight places ordered shut for “high-priority violations,” such as improper food temperatures or dead cockroaches.
Any restaurant that fails a state inspection must stay closed until it passes a follow-up. If you spot a possible violation and wish to file a complaint, contact Florida DBPR. (But please don’t contact us: The Sun Sentinel doesn’t inspect restaurants.)
PALM BEACH COUNTY
Chipotle Mexican Grill
8790 Boynton Beach Blvd., Boynton Beach
Ordered shut: Nov. 24
Why: One high priority violation:
- About 27 live flies in areas such as “on door frame to office,” “inside kitchen on trash cans” and “on old cardboard boxes on cart,” “on clean and sanitized vegetable slicer on kitchen prep table,” “on sealed box of seasoning,” “on food prep table in middle of kitchen,” “in customer lobby area flying around windows” and “landing on tables,” “on exterior of walk-in cooler door” and “on bag of chips at takeout-area prep station.”
Status: Reopened Nov. 25 after a follow-up inspection found no violations.
