
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for all of South Florida through Tuesday. Forecasters called for 3 to 6 inches of rain in the region, with some areas receiving up to 8 inches.
The 24-hour total rainfall by Tuesday afternoon has the potential of reaching 10-plus inches over portions of the metro area, the weather service said, with the coastal metro areas have a higher risk of excessive rainfall.
The heaviest rain is expected Monday afternoon and Tuesday evening. “The potential for flooding will continue through tonight as any shower or thunderstorms will have the possibility of producing very heavy downpours,” forecasters said.
Gusty winds, reaching up to 23 mph, also are possible.
The city of Hollywood has made all four city-operated parking garages free to residents until 8 a.m. Wednesday to assist those living in low-lying areas.
Miami Beach has opened nine garages as well.

The weather system is moving slowly northeast from the Gulf.
A break in the weather Monday, with sunny skies, could actually raise the risk of more severe thunderstorms later in the day.
Wednesday onward should be dry and sunny, and temperatures will rise through the week, reaching the mid- to upper-90s over the weekend.
Humidity will pick up toward the weekend as well, bringing heat indices up to the triple digits in the interior.
