Dolphins’ Jevon Holland back at Thursday practice after injury scare at first training camp practice

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins safety Jevon Holland was back on the practice field Thursday after an injury scare at Wednesday’s first training camp practice.

Holland was immediately seen during team stretch to start the day’s drills, participated in individual portions and then lined up with the defense at his usual starting post in the team setting.

His presence Thursday is a sigh of relief after he was seen flipping over rookie slot wide receiver Malik Washington on the second 7-on-7 play of Wednesday’s first practice of camp.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led Washington into Holland on his pass, and with Washington going low to haul in the throw, Holland seemed to try to pull up to avoid the collision but ended up taking a hard fall as he was upended by the 5-foot-8 Washington.

Holland tried to return briefly following the hit, but then was attended to by trainers at practice and didn’t resume drills.

Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey, asked his vantage point of the injury after Wednesday’s practice, said he felt the safety would be okay.

Holland, after the fall, practiced on a day where several veterans sat out for rest, including left tackle Terron Armstead, defensive tackle Calais Campbell, safety Jordan Poyer, tight end Jonnu Smith and cornerback Kendall Fuller. Tagovailoa didn’t throw passes Thursday while watching and attentive to drills, listening to play calls on a device.
