NEW YORK — Miami Dolphins rookie running back De’Von Achane is not expected to play against the New York Jets for the teams’ 3 p.m. kickoff Friday, according to NFL Network.
Achane was deemed questionable on the Dolphins’ Thursday injury report after going through a limited practice on the short week since aggravating the same right knee injury that kept him out four weeks on injured reserve in Sunday’s 20-13 win over the Las Vegas Raiders
Achane tested out the knee, according to the report, but it “just didn’t quite feel right” and is not expected to be something that keeps him out long-term.
Without the rookie phenom who has averaged 11.8 yards per carry, the Dolphins are expected to give Raheem Mostert the bulk of the workload with Jeff Wilson Jr. spelling him. Miami also elevated fellow running back Darrynton Evans from the practice squad to the game-day roster Thursday.
Achane is one of eight Dolphins that enters Friday’s game questionable. The others: Offensive linemen Terron Armstead (knee), Robert Hunt (hamstring), Austin Jackson (oblique) and Lester Cotton (hip), tight end Durham Smythe (ankle), fullback Alec Ingold (foot/ankle) and wide receiver Chase Claypool (knee). Offensive lineman Robert Jones is doubtful as he works beach from a knee ailment.
Aside from Jones, the other offensive linemen are expected to be active, with coach Mike McDaniel noting Wednesday he wasn’t sure if Hunt would start while dressing for the game against the Jets.
