A child is hospitalized after being shot during a fight near Plantation High School on Monday afternoon, police said.
Two minors were fighting near the intersection of Northwest 70th Avenue and Northwest 16th Street, “during which one of the juveniles was shot,” Plantation Police spokesperson Officer Ari Dorfman said.
The child was taken to a hospital and expected to recover, he said. Officers were at the scene “working to identify a suspect.”
“This did not occur on school grounds and happened after school hours,” Dorfman said.
He did not provide the ages or genders of the minors involved. Additional information had not been released as of late Monday afternoon.

Officers were seen placing a colorful children’s backpack into a large brown evidence bag at the scene.
Nearby Plantation Middle School was briefly placed on lockdown, which had been lifted by about 3:30 p.m., the police department said in a post on X.
Northwest 70th Avenue is shut down from Northwest 11th Place to Northwest 16th Street as officers investigate.
