Motorcyclist shoots himself in head after fleeing from FHP trooper in Boca Raton

A man died on Sunday after he fled from a trooper on his motorcycle, then pulled over and shot himself in the head, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The trooper tried to pull the motorcyclist over in the area of Yamato Road and Technology Way in Boca Raton for allegedly driving recklessly, spokesperson Lt. Indiana Miranda said.

The motorcyclist fled as FHP aircraft and “ground units” tried to track the driver, Miranda’s statement said.

“The subject eventually stopped near a plaza, where he produced a firearm and inflicted a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head,” she said.

The man was taken to Broward Health North in Pompano Beach, where he was at first “alert and responsive” but had life-threatening injuries, according to Miranda. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Miranda said additional information would not be released until the investigation is closed.
