FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Midway through the athletic year, and the first edition of the “County-Line Cup” rivalry between Nova Southeastern and Barry, the current record in the match-up is 4-2 in favor of NSU.
The “County-Line Cup” is an annual, year-round rivalry between both the NSU and Barry Athletic Departments and their respective programs. There are 17 total points to be earned throughout the year-long rivalry; in case of a tie, the tiebreaker will be most Sunshine State Conference championships – regular season and post-season combined.
Scoring for the “County-Line Cup” will be as follows – regular-season SSC contests will have a total of one point to each winner if the teams play just once. If teams play twice in the season – such as the case for volleyball and men’s & women’s basketball – each contest will be valued at half-a-point. Baseball and Softball scoring is one point for the three-game series. For sports that do not have head-to-head match-ups during the regular season – swimming, cross country, track, rowing, golf – one point will be awarded for the higher finisher at the Sunshine State Conference Championship.
Nova Southeastern earned points by defeating the Buccaneers in women’s cross country, men’s cross country, men’s soccer, men’s basketball and by recording a tie in the women’s soccer match.
The next “County-Line Cup” clash will be held on Saturday, February 1st, as the Sharks Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams travel to Miami Shores to play Barry in Sunshine State Conference action. To stay up-to-date on Sharks Athletics, be sure to follow on Instagram & X at NSUSharks.
