Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a toll-relief credit program into law Thursday, aiming to provide relief to commuters who frequently use Florida’s tollways.
With the program, the average commuter who faces tolls is expected to save about $550 a year.

“This is significant for a lot of folks,” DeSantis said during a news conference in Fort Lauderdale. “For our commuters who are going into work in our metro areas, they get hit with tolls going to and from work every day.”
The program was approved unanimously in a special session Wednesday as lawmakers met to discuss toll relief and how to send aid to communities left devastated by hurricanes.

The toll measure expands on a current rebate program, and gives a 50% credit to commuters who use SunPass, EZ pass and other Florida transponder accounts each month if they have 35 or more toll-road trips. Florida will provide about $500 million in tax dollars to cover these revenues.
