A 13-year-old from Lauderhill was hospitalized early Wednesday after a firework explosion gone wrong, authorities say.
Lauderhill Fire Rescue responded to the 3000 block of Northwest 12th Place about 1 a.m. to transport the teenager to Broward General with a partial amputation of his fingers and burns to his face, according to Lauderhill Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Jerry Gonzalez.
He appeared to have been trying to light mortar type fireworks when he was injured, Gonzalez said.
As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, the boy was recovering post-surgery.
