FCC warns consumers about new one-ring ‘wangiri’ robocall scam

Spoofing techniques make calls appear to be coming from phone numbers somewhere in the United State or from international area codes to further mask the true identity of the number in caller IDs. When calling the numbers, consumers risk being charged a fee for connecting, along with significant per-minute fees. Scammers try to keep you on the phone for as long possible to pump up the charges. Consumers later are surprised with “premium services” on their bills.
