Thousands of people are expected to take part in the Wings For Life World Run in Sunrise on Sunday morning and that means some major road closures are planned.
The run begins at the BB&T Center but has no finish line.
The race ends only when runners are passed by a ‘Catcher Car’ which allows runners of all levels to run a personal race unique to their ability, whether that’s a 5K or an ultra-marathon, organizers said.
Roads closed by the run from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. include:
- Northwest 136th Avenue near the BB&T Center;
- Southbound Flamingo Road from Northwest 136th Avenue to Oakland Park Boulevard;
- Oakland Park Boulevard between Flamingo and Hiatus roads;
- Hiatus Road between Oakland Park and Broward boulevards;
- The intersection of Sunrise Boulevard and Hiatus Road;
- Broward Boulevard between Flamingo and Hiatus roads;
- North Flamingo Road from Broward Boulevard to Northwest Eighth Street;
- Northwest Eighth Street;
- The intersection of Northwest Eighth Street and 136th Avenue;
- Sawgrass Corporate Parkway;
- And all access to Sawgrass Mills mall and limited access to residential communities along Northwest 136th Avenue.
The only access to the BB&T Center is from West Sunrise Boulevard to Northwest 136th Avenue to Gate 7.
Proceeds from the event benefit efforts to find a cure for spinal cord injury, organizers said.
