Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Isaac Asiata, a promising young player entering his third season with the team, shared the recent death of his child on social media.
Asiata and his wife, Angelia, were expecting a son to be born in October to join their daughter, Norah, in the family.
Unfortunately, the child passed away on April 1, Asiata said in a lengthy social post on Twitter and Instagram this week.
“On January 27th, 2019, we were blessed with the news of a Little Buddy coming in October,” Asiata said. “Overwhelmed with happiness, joy and a little scared of what the future held, we both embraced and welcomed the blessing of being parents to a new baby.
“On April 1st, our baby returned to our Father in Heaven. … The hardship that has followed has been an experience that has absolutely broken me. But I have seen the lords hand in our life and have never felt him leave our side. My testimony has grown tremendously as I’ve trusted in the lord and his plan for our family.”
Asiata, a former University of Utah standout and fifth-round pick of the Dolphins in 2017, shared the news on Wednesday night after the second of three voluntary workouts with the this week, which he participated in.
Asiata has played in two career games for the Dolphins, one in each of the last two seasons.
He has an opportunity to earn significant playing time on Miami’s offensive line during the 2019 season.
Here is Asiata’s social media post in its entirety:
“On January 27th, 2019, we were blessed with the news of a Little Buddy coming in October. Overwhelmed with happiness, joy and a little scared of what the future held, we both embraced and welcomed the blessing of being parents to a new baby.
On April 1st, our baby returned to our Father in Heaven. Though we never got to meet them, hold them, love them, I couldn’t love or care for them anymore than I do now. The hardship that has followed has been an experience that has absolutely broken me.
But I have seen the lords hand in our life and have never felt him leave our side. My testimony has grown tremendously as I’ve trusted in the lord and his plan for our family.
Though it may not be easy, I know that the lord is mindful of us. My biggest fear has always been losing a love one, especially My Wife & Norah. The peace that has come from The blessings of this gospel, and knowing that I will see, love, hold and care for this child again, has been one of my biggest comforts.
I’m so proud of Angelia for fighting through these struggles every day and I’m thankful for a wife who has been so strong through all of this. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true, this gospel is true, I believe it in every fiber of my being. Families are Forever. I Love You So Much Baby Boy. Daddy can’t wait to see you again.”
