Pedestrian struck and killed by Virgin train is identified

A man who was struck and killed by a Virgin Trains USA passenger train on the Florida East Coast railroad tracks in Pompano Beach has been identified by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Donald Krinkie, 74, of Fort Lauderdale, was crossing the FEC tracks near West McNab Road and South Dixie Highway about 12:30 p.m. Friday, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Joy Oglesby.

“The southbound train came to a stop following the collision,” she said, in a statement. “Krinkie was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Detectives suspect he may have been carrying a bicycle across the tracks when the crash happened. The death investigation is continuing.

  1. My intent with this email is to inform the community we’ve just lost a living angle; I and fellow volunteers shared countless hours in Broward Health Imperial Point Hospital with Don.
Don would rise in the wee hours of the morning with just a dime in his pocket, ride his bike on dark Federal Highway at 5am just to welcome guests into our surgery center. He was blessed with an aura that made all our guests feel welcome. Myself and others shared many a conversation with this remarkable person, always a kind word, no matter the subject nor task at hand. He would gladly jump in for anyone.
His outside world revolved around his Christ Church often discipling others to attend their church of choice or attend his. He often would be seen with his Bible in tow, truly a twenty-first century man of God.
Many in Broward Health Imperial Point Hospital knew of his virtues and pleasantries. He is a huge personal loss for all who engaged with him. Our volunteer team are in our plus 70’s having experienced life’s highs & lows, appreciative of his kindness toward others! He was a gifted soul…
