A cold front is expected to arrive in South Florida Friday evening, bringing with it the potential for severe storms and the possibility of a tornado, according to the National Weather Service.
“An isolated tornado is not out of the question,” said a weather briefing issued Wednesday by the Miami-South Florida forecast office of the National Weather Service.
Forecasters said the biggest threat of severe weather would likely be over Glades County and other areas west of Lake Okeechobee.
The forecast for the Fort Lauderdale area calls for a slight chance of showers on Thursday with a high of about 86F and a low around 76F.
Friday will see a chance of rain before 2 pm.
The rest of the day and night will then see a good chance of rain — 60 percent increasing to 80 percent from the afternoon through the night — with the wind potentially reaching a gusty 25 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
The low on Friday night will drop to a pleasant 67F before warming back up to the low 80s on Saturday — with a 30 percent chance of rain in the early morning. Saturday night was expected to be even cooler than Friday night with the low dropping into the low 60s.
