Their names are Lucky, Scruffy, Little Bit and Arthur and they are the pride and joy — fur babies, if you will — of some of the residents at John Knox Village, a retirement community in Pompano Beach. The petite pups are loyal companions who like to take morning walks and afternoon naps, and they don’t mind wearing colorful bandanas lovingly placed around their necks by their doting owners.
So when photographer Marty Lee offered up free 15-minute workshops teaching dog owners there how to take Instagram-worthy photos of their prized pooches, the residents quickly signed up for appointments.
Pet portraits at the Wellness Dog Park were just one activity organized for the community’s recent third annual ArtSage week, which is modeled after the 40-year-old Spoleto Festival USA showcasing the performing and fine arts in Charleston, South Carolina every summer.
With several events open to the public, Monica McAfee, John Knox Village’s chief marketing and innovation officer, said they want to make ArtSage one of Broward County’s premier performing and fine arts festivals.
“We are bringing an impressive array of artists working within all the genres — from music, dance and theater to even culinary arts — with our executive chef whipping up creations during a cooking demonstration,” she said before the event.
