Walmart may not be coming to Oakland Park after all

A Walmart Supercenter may not be coming to Oakland Park after all.

The Bentonville, Ark.-based company is selling 12.5-acre site at 670 E. Oakland Park Blvd. The listing includes the aging 121,000-square-foot building that was the longtime home of Kmart, which closed in 2014.

“Over the past year while our final entitlements were being vested, we received some (unsolicited) interest in the property,” Phillip Keene, a Walmart spokesman, wrote in an email. “As a result, we are exploring our options (sell the property for another use, proceed with the construction of the approved store, etc.). This said, we have not made a final decision on any future plans at this time.”

The Oakland Park city manager’s office notified the city commission of the sale Wednesday with a link to the listing, which is being handed by Katz and Associates. A selling price was not included in the listing. Agent David Emihovich would not share the listing price, saying he had no comment.
