The reward to catch the killer of a Pembroke Pines teenager has been increased to $25,000.
Anonymous donors contributed $22,000 to the standard $3,000 Broward Crime Stoppers reward to find whoever was responsible for the killing of Ameer Mustafa, police and Crimestoppers announced Wednesday.
Mustafa, 18, was gunned down just before 5 a.m. Jan. 15 in the Cobblestone residential community, bordering the west side of Interstate 75 between Pines Boulevard and Pembroke Road, investigators said.
He died in the 14700 block of Southwest Seventh Street — four days before his 19th birthday.
Police were responding to reports of shots fired when they found Mustafa suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The gated entrances into the Cobblestone community were closed while police set up a perimeter and searched the area with help from a Broward Sheriff’s Office helicopter, but the effort was unsuccessful.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the fatal shooting to contact Pembroke Pines police at 954-431-2200 or by emailing tips@ppines.com.
Anonymous tips also can be given to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
