A 38-year-old man suffered fatal injuries when his Mercedes-Benz hydroplaned into the back of a stopped truck at a Boynton Beach intersection Tuesday morning, police said.
Arshia Poursartip, of Boynton Beach, was rushed to Delray Medical Center, where he died, said Stephanie Slater, spokeswoman for the police department.
Poursartip was driving his Mercedes west on Boynton Beach Boulevard when he skidded on the wet road while trying to stop and slammed the passenger’s side of his car into the back end of a flatbed truck, according to police.
A sobbing woman who answered the phone Tuesday night at Poursartip’s home asked a reporter to call back after Poursartip’s sister arrived from out of town.
The 10:20 a.m. rainy day crash was one of more than a dozen that Boynton Beach police officers responded to on Tuesday, Slater said. She urged drivers to take it slow on the wet roads, pay attention and drive safe.
The truck, a Ford F550, was stopped at the intersection waiting to turn north on Industrial Avenue, immediately west of Interstate 95 and the railroad tracks, when the Mercedes careened into it, Slater said.
Arthur Lee Phillips III, 51, of Pompano Beach was driving the truck. He had minor injuries and was taken to Bethesda Hospital in Boynton Beach, police said.
Investigators urge witnesses to the crash to contact traffic homicide investigator Vincent Mastro at 561-742-6165.
