Rapper and Pompano Beach native Kodak Black stopped to check on the driver of a car that had flipped over onto its side Wednesday night — and the exchange was recorded live on his Instagram account.
It’s not clear where the rollover happened, but Kodak seemingly could barely believe what he had come across while driving: a car on its side in the grass, with the female driver standing up in it, her upper body emerging from one of the skyward-pointing side windows.
“Damn y’all, s— crazy,” he said, emerging from his car. He also noted the apparent coincidence of the radio playing his latest hit “Zeze” as he turned off his car.
“Y’all see this s—, man? And they’re playing my music on the radio. Damn, dog! Somebody just flipped over dog! Look at this lady, man.”
Then he shouts to the driver: “You alright? You OK? Want me to help you?”
It appears the car flipped on a highway entrance or exit. While Kodak Black appears to have been living in Los Angeles, he has also been spending time in South Florida in recent weeks. It’s not clear, but the license plate on the sideways vehicle appears to be a Florida plate.
As he approached the rolled vehicle, one of the women at the scene — it wasn’t clear if this was the driver or somebody else — recognized the Broward hip-hop star. “Are you Kodak?” she asks.
“Yeah, I’m Kodak,” the rapper responds.
The exchange continues with somebody urging that 911 be called, and the driver appears to plead with them not to call police.
Kodak — whose legal name is Bill K. Kapri, after having changed his name last year from his given name Dieuson Octave — then finds himself in the middle of a “call the police-no don’t call police” situation that he appears to want no part of. (The rapper has been arrested several times over the past few years but isn’t currently facing any charges in Florida.)
“I just wanted to see if you’re straight,” he says to the driver, meaning alright.
Another few moments of the confusing back-and-forth continues before Kodak, apparently trusting that the people at the scene will deal with the situation, decides to leave.
The footage of the good Samaritanism on the Broward hip-hop star’s part was making the rounds on music blogs and social media on Thursday morning.
“Neighborhood hero #KodakBlack,” is how the rapper was described on the Instagram account of his official clothing line, Sniper Gang Apparel.
