After hitting a pedestrian in Fort Lauderdale, a driver stopped, walked toward the man and then “fled the scene,” without trying to help or calling for aid, police said.
The crash happened shortly after 7 p.m. on Feb. 12 as George Storoshenko, 52, of Plantation was walking along the 3300 block of West Davie Boulevard. He was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he died from his injuries on Feb. 26, Fort Lauderdale police said Wednesday
The driver of a maroon, late-model, Ford Thunderbird stopped his car, got out, walked toward Storoshenko, got back in the car and drove away, investigators said.
Police have issued a picture of a similar-looking vehicle in the hopes of generating leads in the case. The actual car is believed to have extensive front end damage.
The driver was a man in his 50s or 60s with “salt and pepper” hair, police said.
Investigators ask anyone with information about the crash or the driver’s identity to contact Fort Lauderdale Traffic Homicide Investigator P. Williams at 954-828-5755.
Anonymous tips can be given to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or online at browardcrimestoppers.org. Tips that lead to an arrest are eligible for a reward of up to $3,000.
