A woman from Fort Lauderdale is dead after her truck was crushed by a semi trailer Sunday afternoon.
The woman, who has not yet been identified, was in her Ford F150, which became wedged under the overturned semi at Southern Boulevard and State Road 700, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The woman was driving south on State Road 700 about 3:30 p.m. when a semi, heading west on Southern Boulevard, attempted to turn right onto 700.
The driver of the semi, identified as 33-year-old Yadier Pena Gonzalez, overshot the turn and flipped the semi’s trailer, crushing the woman’s truck.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and as the only person in the vehicle, according to a report from the highway patrol.
A car was also behind the woman’s truck and veered out of the way of the semi and drove off the road.
Two of its occupants — Aidan Mowatt, 21, and Stanquita Russ, 32 — were taken to Lakeside Medical Center in Belle Glade with minor injuries.
Gonzalez, of Hialeah, was not injured.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, but it is not thought to be alcohol-related.
