Gov. Rick Scott sworn in for second term

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has been sworn in for a second term. Scott officially begins his second term Tuesday during his inauguration ceremony on the steps of the old Capitol building in Tallahassee. The Republican governor touched on creating jobs and making Florida a top destination for businesses that will bring more jobs to the state. In his prepared speech, Scott said he wants to continue limiting the size of government and lowering taxes. He also said he plans to travel the country in an effort to get more people to move to Florida. “I know there is a great temptation in government to think that you can spend people’s money better than they can,” Scott said. “But, if that were true, more than 1 million people would not have left New York and Illinois over the past 20 years for Florida and other lower-tax states.” Scott beat Republican-turned-Democrat former Gov. Man steals gun from unlocked vehicle in Coral Springs

Coral Springs police are searching for a man who stole a gun from an unlocked vehicle on Christmas Eve. Surveillance video shows the man looking into unlocked vehicles between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Christmas Eve. Police said the man stole a handgun from one of the vehicles and is now considered armed. Coral Springs police are reminding residents to lock their doors and remove anything valuable from their vehicles at night. Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call police at 954-346-1323. Men steal tires, rims off Porsche in Coral Gables

Police are trying to identify two men who stole the tires and rims off a car in Coral Gables. The theft happened shortly before 4 a.m. Friday outside a home on Malaga Avenue. Coral Gables police Officer Lauren Poole said the men were captured on the homeowner’s surveillance video removing all four tires and rims from a 2011 Porsche Carrera. Poole said they deflated the tires and placed three concrete blocks under the car to remove the parts. The tires and rims were placed in the back of a truck before it drove away. Anyone who recognizes the men is asked to call Coral Gables police at 305-442-1600.
