Facebook helps man find class ring lost overseas decades ago

Social media showed its power. A man was reunited with his class ring after he lost it halfway across the world 25 years ago. The last time John Sims saw his 1981 class ring from Miami Beach Senior High School was in 1989, when he was serving in the Navy off the coast of Italy. He was playing softball when he lost the ring. “I thought it was gone forever,” said Sims. But a fellow Navy family living in Virginia found the ring inside an old softball glove and used Facebook to locate Sims. His name was engraved in the ring. Testimony to continue in Kaely Camacho crash trial

The trial of a man accused in a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a 13-year-old girl is scheduled to resume Friday morning for a third day of testimony. Prosecutors claim Sandor Guillen was driving the SUV that hit the minivan Kaely Camacho was riding in with her family. Guillen has pleaded not guilty to charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide. On Thursday, defense attorneys for Guillen attempted to convince jurors that detectives mishandled evidence from the scene of the April 2012 crash. They called into question how the crash scene was analyzed and how the initial paperwork disappeared. But veteran Miami-Dade police detective Oscar Perez defended his actions during his testimony. “I think I supplied plenty of information that anybody needs.” An earlier argument by the defense was that Camacho’s father, who gave emotional testimony Wednesday, ran a red light and was responsible for the crash. Prosecutors called on county engineers to explain the way the southwest Miami-Dade intersection is set up, to show there is no way Guillen had a green light at the time of the accident. Two police officers injured after responding to incident in Southwest Miami-Dade

Two officers were hurt overnight after responding to a call in Southwest Miami-Dade. The incident happened at Southwest 122th Avenue and 204th Street. Police were still in the area investigating hours later. Miami-Dade dispatch also told Local 10 News that someone was also tased in the incident. At this time, police have not said how these officers got injured or the extent of their injuries.
