Marine Environmental Education Center Wins Award

On Thursday, March 1, NSU and the Marine Environmental Education Center (MEEC) were presented the the Partnership Award by the Broward County Parks and Recreation Department. Present to accept the award from Broward County Parks Director Dan West and Galye Preston were Halmos Dean Richard Dodge, Ph.D., Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program director Derek Burkholder, Ph.D., and Halmos graduate students Amy Hupp, Meghan McGlone, and Glenn Goodwin.

In the past year nearly 13,000 guests and school kids visited the MEEC. The MEEC was fostered from a partnership between Broward County Parks and Recreation and Nova Southeastern University. The facility is located on the historic grounds of the Carpenter House at Hollywood North Beach Park in Hollywood, Florida. The MEEC’s mission is to provide outstanding marine education, interactive learning, and research with a focus on endangered sea turtles.
